Visitor Policy

The safety and security of students and staff is a priority at School No. 33. All visitors who enter the school during school hours must report to the Main Office and show a valid, government-issued photo identification (i.e., driver’s license) upon entry. Our computerized system scans the ID to ensure nothing indicates they should not be allowed into the building, including clearance by the national sex offender registry.

Below are the procedures for visitors:

  • All parents and visitors will be asked to provide valid picture identification when they sign in. This added security measure allows us to track visitors and verify appointments accurately.
  • The office staff will verify their appointment or reason for the visit. This may include a phone call to the classroom or other staff members.
  • Visitors will be asked to sign in and wear a badge provided by the office during their time in the building.
  • Visitors will not be permitted beyond the main entrance doors during arrival unless prior approval has been established.
  • School visitors are prohibited from taking pictures or videos of other students.
  • To celebrate birthdays, prior communication needs to be made with classroom teachers to plan an appropriate time to celebrate. All treats brought in must be store bought and allergy safe.

Visitations to Classrooms

Must be scheduled with the Teacher and/or the House Assistant Principal in advance to allow teachers to arrange their schedules to accommodate such requests. Parents/guardians may have lunch with their child in the cafeteria but must follow the same procedures described above. If someone other than a parent or guardian is planning to join your child for lunch, the school must receive a note or phone call from the child’s parent/guardian granting permission for the visit.

School Volunteers

All school-approved volunteers must complete the online volunteer paperwork and be approved before volunteering in the building and any classroom. At School No. 33, parents/visitors may not bring in food for students other than their own. Many of our younger students have food allergies and may only sometimes know what they are able/unable to eat.

Anyone who does not adhere to these procedures will not be permitted entry. No exceptions.

➢ The school’s main entrance will serve as the single point of entry for visitors. Visitors must report immediately to the school office and present photo identification to obtain a visitor’s pass.

➢ Parents/caregivers must call the school office to arrange an early pick-up time for their children and present photo identification upon arrival.

➢ Any person asked to leave school property must do so immediately. Refusal to leave will result in police intervention.

The District Code of Conduct applies to everyone in our school community, including students, staff, families, and community members. Aggressive behavior is never acceptable and will not be tolerated. Unruly visitors will be removed from the premises immediately, and a report will be filed with the Rochester City School District and the Rochester Police Department. Failure to follow school policy may result in being banned from the school property. Everyone has a role to play in the safety and security of our school communities. We ask that you be vigilant and report any suspicious activity on or around school grounds immediately by calling 585-262-8600.
